Use your mobile phone to connect your laptop to the Internet

Did you know that you connect your phone as a GPRS modem with your laptop or PC to the Internet to use? This feature is especially useful as you have an Internet connection anywhere for laptop users. The setup procedure is very simple, anyone can do that. But Before you begin, make sure you have either an unlimited data plan or a sufficiently high pre-paid limit, if you do not want to have an unpleasant shock, when your next phone bill comes.

Let us first describe the procedure for Windows Mobile phones. If your laptop runs MS Windows, then no additional software is required. In this case, both operating systems already have all that is needed to connect, You have to stop only some settings . Customize Then we'll talk about other mobile operating systems.

You must first establish a connection between your phone and laptop. Connection can either came with the USB cable to the phone, or Bluetooth. We are not talking about cable here, because in this case, the procedure much more complicated. You also must also install phone-specific drivers, so that those who would use this type of connection to their mobile phones rather consult the manufacturer.

For Bluetooth connection, not just the modem function setup is very simple, it is also more convenient than a wireless connection. (But better not hold the phone in your pocket because you are too strong Radiation exposure, as long as you surf the Web. As it is recommended that a headset for mobile phone calls, too, if you use mobile phone to the Internet, it is better not to keep, to close it).

So, first you have to do is connect your phone to the computer (couple, if your laptop does not have a built-in Bluetooth function, you can buy a Bluetooth dongle). Bluetooth should be enabled mobile device and you should be seen for other devices. Then on the laptop, right-click the Bluetooth icon and select "Add New Connection", then simply follow the instructions. With your phone you will see a Pop, that your laptop will connect. Release the connection. My laptop shows a master key, which you should be aware to enter on the phone when prompted be. Then other assistants follow instructions on the laptop. The only area where you need to change the phone number in the "Create Dialup Connection" screen. For GSM networks, this number should be * 99 #. For CDMA networks, this number may be different, can you learn from your carrier. All other fields should be left blank or as they are.

Now your phone is paired with the laptop and a dial-up connection has been established. Now you just need some information to the modem configuration to add. Go to Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Modems. have the best mobile modem you have just created and select Properties. On the tab "Advanced", you need to enter a string in the "Extra initialization commands". The Initialization string should look like this:
+ CGDCONT = 1, "IP", "apn.address" – you should apn.address with the name of the GPRS APN (Access Point Name) of your mobile provider to replace. You will find the access point name in the Internet connection settings (under Settings -> Connections) in your phone or you can to learn it from your carrier.

That's it, now you can use your phone as a modem. The dial-up connection you just created, can to achieve by clicking on the WiFi icon in the taskbar. Alternatively, you can right-click the Bluetooth icon and then click View Bluetooth network devices ". Then right-click the phone icon and you will see Dial-Up Networking.

Let us turn now to other mobile platforms. For the BlackBerry Very similar procedure, but you should first install BlackBerry Desktop Software on your laptop and connect the phone to laptop via USB cable at least once, so that all necessary drivers are installed automatically. Note, however, does not have that all BlackBerry models have a modem. You can at your local Blackberry service Your network operator or to find out if your device can be used as a modem.

For Google Android and iPhone devices this method will not work. The Reason is that Google and Apple have this type of connection, because the pressure is blocked by mobile operators (because then for two data plans, one for the phone and others pay for a computer). You can get around this limitation by PdaNet program for Windows Mobile, Palm OS, BlackBerry, iPhone and Google Android.

Is the HTC Touch a smartphone or pocket PC?

i have the sprint touch. it runs windows mobile 6. is it categorized as a smartphone, pocket pc, pda, etc??

It’s a smartphone. To be considered a Pocket PC, it would run Windows Mobile Pocket PC edition. The only real difference between these PPC edition and Window Mobile is that the PPC version does not support a touch screen. It also has all the functions of a PDA, so it could be considered a PDA with a phone.

How can I share a Wifi network using my PC?

I am in range of a wireless network with one of my PCs. However, it’s the only one that is powerful enough to pick up the network. My other laptop and my iPhone are not able to pick it up.

Is there a way that I can connect to the network with my PC via Wifi and share it to my other laptop and iPhone also via Wifi?

I sure would hope this is possible: applications just like this are available for Windows Mobile phones and the iPhone via PDAnet, etc., so I’d imagine a fully powered PC could do it!

The quicker the reply, the more I’d appreciate it! Thanks!

just remember; wireless cards do not function on a dial up connection. You will have to invest in wireless router and a dsl service provider.Dial up is analog and wireless is digital.

you can do this

First disable any firewall or port watching software on both the laptops, at least until you have the whole thing working; then establish a peer to peer network connection between the laptops by using a CROSSOVER Ethernet Cable. Run the Network connections wizard on both laptops if you have to. ONLY AFTER you have the lapotps seeing and talking to each other, you can go and work on the Connection sharing bit. Read this Microsoft article here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/306126
for starters, and read others if you need to. Once you have your ICS running, then you can apply the same principles to your wireless adapters, and ditch the cable.
This is a great project, I wish you well.
